WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team was well represented at Saturday's All-Ohio Championships, as six athletes competed in the invitation-only event hosted by Otterbein University in Westerville.
To participate in this championship meet, athletes must be in the top 16 individuals, or top 12 for relays, out of all Division III schools in the state of Ohio.
A pair of weight throwers made the cut and were just shot of a scoring position. Senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) placed in the ninth position in the meet with a best throw of 14.95 meters (49 feet, 0.75 inches), and she was followed by senior Hannah Williams (Swanton), whose best toss fo 14.43 meters (47 feet, 4.25 inches) was good enough for the 11th spot.
Also qualifying for the meet was the 4x200-meter relay team of Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial), Malia Ferry (Milford), Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green), and Mackenzie Moehrman (Deshler/Patrick Henry). The team placed in the 11th spot with a time of 1:55.92, going 1.5 seconds faster than their previous run two weeks ago at the Defiance Invitational, and only 0.4 seconds away from being on the DC all-time top 10 list in the event.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the track with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Anderson University, on Saturday, Feb. 17. Action is set to start at 1 p.m.
