ADA, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team competed at the Joe Banks Invitational at Ohio Northern University and placed 12th overall out of 14 teams at the meet with a total of 13 points.
The women were led by the women's weight throwers once again, as senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) placed in the second spot and just shy of her career-best with a throw of 15.08 meters (49 feet, 5.75 inches). Shortly behind her, in the fifth position, was senior Hannah Williams (Swanton) with a toss of 13.96 meters (45 feet, 9.75 inches). Sophomore Madi Bowman (Eaton) and senior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) also added 12th and 17th-place finishes in the field of 43 athletes.
A pair of Yellow Jackets also gained solid finishes in the shot put, as Waidelich finished ninth with a season-best throw of 11.19 meters (36 feet, 8.5 inches). Just behind Waidelich was Santen, who placed 11th with a throw of 10.98 meters (36 feet, 0.25 inches).
Freshman Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green) improved on her career-best with a vault of 2.98 meters (9 feet, 9.25 inches), which improves her spot as the second-best Yellow Jacket in the history of the event on the indoor track.
Switching gears to the track, the highlight of the day came from freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance). Fett placed in the 12th position with a time of 12:00.04, good enough for the seventh-best mark in school history.
Fellow freshman distance runner Kenna Bell (Piqua) also earned a point in the 1000-meter run with her eighth-place finish with a time of 3:53.97.
Senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) earned a finish in the top half of the 200-meter dash field with a time of 28.55 seconds, just short of her season-best.
The Yellow Jackets track and field teams will return to action next weekend as they host their final meet at the George M. Smart Center with the Dick Small Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
