Three Singles Victories Highlight Battle with Alma
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's tennis team continued spring season action on Monday afternoon by taking on Alma College in the George M. Smart Center. The Yellow Jackets narrowly fell to the Scots, 5-4.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's tennis team continued spring season action on Monday afternoon by taking on Alma College in the George M. Smart Center. The Yellow Jackets narrowly fell to the Scots, 5-4.
Doubles action saw one win for the Yellow Jackets. On the number one doubles court the pairing of A.J. Breneman (Bryan/Bryan) and Cayla Walker (Archbold/Archbold) pull out an 8-5 win.
Singles play saw plenty of exciting tennis for Yellow Jackets and Scot fans alike. In number one singles, Hannah Hesterman (Archbold/Archbold) pulled out a thrilling tiebreak victory in the first set before cruising to a 6-3 win in the second. Breneman followed up with a 6-3, 7-6 victory of her own in number two singles. Walker wanted a piece of the singles action as well, winning her number three battle 6-3, 6-1.
The Scots were able to pull out victories in the final three singles matches of the day to hold on for the tight 5-4 decision.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action next week, March 3-8, as they head to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a series of matchups during the Defiance College spring break.
