Yellow Jackets End Season at Hanover (Ind.)
HANOVER, IND. – The Defiance College women’s tennis team wrapped up their season by traveling to Hanover, Ind. to compete in a tri-match with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover (Ind.) College and non-conference opponent Berea (Ky.) College.

In the first match of the day, Defiance (5-12, 1-7 HCAC) faced Hanover (Ind.) (11-3, 8-0 HCAC) and fell to the Panthers by a match score of 9-0.
In doubles play, the first doubles team of senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) had the closest match for the Yellow Jackets. They fought their opponent to an 8-3 decision.
In singles play, Hesterman forced her Panther rival to a third set decision, eventually falling at the second singles spot 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Marquez and senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) captured some games from the Panthers at the first and fourth singles spots, respectively. Marquez finished with a score of 6-1, 6-4 while Tank finished 6-0, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets ended the day on a high note after defeating Berea (Ky.) College (3-6) by an overall match score of 7-2.
The first doubles team of Marquez and Hesterman along with the second doubles duo of senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) both earned victories by defeating their Mountaineer opponent by scores of 8-2 and 8-4, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets took their winning momentum into singles play as they swept five out of six singles matches to finalize the victory in favor of Defiance. Hesterman was at the second spot and defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1. Kuhlman played third singles and won 6-1, 6-0. Tank walked away with a win at the fourth singles spot by a score of 7-5, 6-1. Vance won at the fifth slot by an overall score of 7-5, 7-5. Rounding out singles play was senior Dava Donaldson (Elyria) who finished ahead of her competitor 6-4, 6-3.
