MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Middletown, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Miami (Ohio) University – Middletown and swept the Thunderhawks by a match score of 9-0.
Due to insufficient numbers, the Thunderhawks (2-5) had to forfeit the third doubles and sixth singles spot, already giving an advantage to Defiance (3-6, 1-3 HCAC). The advantage had no effect on the Yellow Jackets as they dominated in both doubles matches and all five singles matches.
Senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) won at the first doubles spot by a score of 8-2. The second doubles team of senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) won against their opponent by a match score of 8-0.
Marquez played the number one spot and won her first singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Hesterman was at the second spot and defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Kuhlman and Vance played third and fourth respectively and both left their opponents with "love" with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) rounded out singles play for the Yellow Jackets and walked away with a win at the fifth singles spot by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
