Defiance Defeats the Quakers
RICHMOND, IND. – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to Richmond, Ind. to face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Earlham (Ind.) College and defeated the Quakers by a score of 8-1.
RICHMOND, IND. – The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Richmond, Ind. to face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Earlham (Ind.) College and defeated the Quakers by a score of 8-1.
Defiance (2-6, 1-3 HCAC) started the match with a 2-1 lead against the Quakers (0-5, 0-3 HCAC) after doubles play. Senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) won at the first doubles spot by a score of 8-2. The second doubles team of senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) won against their opponent by a match score of 8-2.
The Yellow Jackets kept their momentum going and swept all six singles matches. Marquez played the number one spot and won her first singles match of the season by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Hesterman was at the second spot and defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Kuhlman played third singles and won 6-1, 6-0. Senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) walked away with a win at the fourth singles spot by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Vance won at the fifth slot by an overall score of 7-5, 6-0. Rounding out singles play was senior Dava Donaldson (Elyria) who came back from a first set deficit to win 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).
Defiance returns to the courts on Friday Sept. 25 when they travel to Middletown, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) University – Middletown. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
