Yellow Jackets Fall to the Spartans, 9-0
N. MANCHESTER, IND. – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to North Manchester, Ind. to take on Manchester (Ind.) University (2-1, 2-0 HCAC) in an HCAC match-up and fell to the Spartans by a final score of 9-0.

Despite the overall loss, Defiance (0-3, 0-2 HCAC) won a total of eight games for the day. Junior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich./Roosevelt) led the Yellow Jackets at the first singles spot winning four games, but dropping the match by an overall score of 6-2, 6-2.
"Nicole played well for us at the top singles spot," said Head Coach Tyler Ault. "It was a big improvement over last year, as a year ago against their top singles player we won no games, compared to four this year."
Junior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) was right behind Tank, earning two games in her match at the second singles spot, with an overall score of 6-2, 6-0.
"Haley was moved up to the second singles spot due to an injury to Savannah, who is our normal number two singles player," said Ault. "Haley played well winning a couple of games, and we hope to have Savannah back as early as next match."
Tank and Kuhlman paired up together at the first doubles spot and earned two games in an overall score of 8-2, making the combined score of eight games going in the Yellow Jacket's favor for the afternoon.
The Purple & Gold will travel to Lexington, Ky. for a HCAC matchup against Transylvania University on Saturday, Sept. 20. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
