FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The women's tennis team was unable to snap a five-match losing streak on Wednesday, as they fell 9-0 to the University of Saint Francis. Defiance, now 0-3 on the road, will host Sinclair Community College on Friday, before heading to Manchester for an HCAC tri-match on Saturday.
DC's Kirsten Wieland got off to a 2-0 start on Saint Francis' Chelsea Selking in No. 1 singles action, but lost the next twelve points to the Cougars' ace. Katie Carunchia continued her consistent play in the No. 6 singles match, recording four points in the first set against SFU's Julianne Haines, but fell 6-4, 6-1 as she dropped to 1-1 in No. 6 singles matches on the season.
