Bowman, Ferry, and Newman earn OCSA Academic All-Ohio honors
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Seniors Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio/ Eaton), Malia Ferry (Milford, Ohio / Milford ), and Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi ) garnered Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Academic All-Ohio honors announced Tuesday afternoon.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Seniors Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio/ Eaton), Malia Ferry (Milford, Ohio / Milford ), and Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi ) garnered Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Academic All-Ohio honors announced Tuesday afternoon.
Ferry was named second-team Academic All-OCSA with a 3.99-grade point average in early childhood education.
Ferry earned All-HCAC Honorable Mention for her efforts during the season, starting in all 20 games for the Purple and Gold as a defender. The Milford, Ohio native led the team in minutes played and was a part of a defense that recorded three shutouts.
Bowman garnered third-team Academic All-OCSA accolades with a 3.67 gpa as an exercise science major. Newman also earned third-team Academic All-OCSA accolades with a double major in psychology and social work major and a 3.63 gpa.
Bowman started 18 games for the Purple and Gold in frame recording a team-high 147 saves, ranking her second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bowman set the school record for most career minutes in net with 5173.01.
Newman earned All-HCAC honors after starting in all 20 games for the Yellow Jackets. The senior netted seven goals and one assist during the 2019 campaign. The Jackson, Michigan native, was second on the team for minutes and tallied 15 points. Newman was also tied for 6th in the HCAC standings for goals scored.
