DEFIANCE, Ohio- The Defiance College women's soccer team began Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play by hosting Franklin College on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies defeated the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 4-0.
Franklin got off to a quick start in the match, when the Grizzlies' Elaina Page beat Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) in the fourteenth minute. A big first half for the Grizzles gave the away side a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets held a tight line, catching the opposing Grizzles offsides thirteen times throughout the course of the game. In goal, Bowman completed another 90 minutes for the Purple and Gold, facing 14 shots on goal and making ten saves.
The loss brings the Yellow Jacket's record to 4-7-1 on the season and 0-1 in HCAC play. The side will return to action Wednesday, October 9th, as they play host to Bluffton for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
