WILMINGTON, Ohio- The Defiance College women's soccer team traveled to Wilmington College on Saturday afternoon. The Quakers defeated the Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-0.
It did not take long for the hosts to break through as Wilmington's Abby Spirk found the back of the net in the 12th minute on a penalty kick. The shots continued to pester senior goalkeeper Madi Bowman's (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton), when five minutes later the home side struck again, giving them the 2-0 lead at the half.
Bowman tended the Yellow Jacket goal for all 90 minutes recording two saves on five shots on goal.
The Purple and Gold come out in the second half taking shots but were unable to find the back of the Quaker net. The home side was able to score one more insurance goal off of a loose ball on a corner kick, giving them the 3-0 win.
The loss takes the Yellow Jacket's 2019 record to 4-5-1. The stretch of away games will continue for the squad as they next travel to Thiel College on Monday, September 30th at 5:30 pm. The contest with the Tomcats will serve as the final match before HCAC play gets underway.
