Jackets Fall to Pioneers

Transylvania (1-8-2-, 1-2 HCAC) scored three goals in the first half with its first score coming at the 10:18 mark for an early 1-0 lead. Shortly after, the Pioneers tacked on two more goals in the span of 1:05 with markers at the 13:42 and 14:47 marks.
Defiance (1-8, 1-2 HCAC) was held to two shots in the first 45 minutes with both shots coming off the foot of junior Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green). One of her shots was on the net and the other fell wide of the Transylvania goal as the Pioneers took a 3-0 advantage into the locker rooms.
In a repeat of the first period, Transylvania tallied three goals and needed just 3:34 to put its fourth goal of the game on the board. The Pioneers added another score during the 58th minute to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets ended the possible shutout with a goal from freshman Whitney Webb (Troy) on an unassisted score during the 77th minute, making the score 5-1.
Transylvania added its final goal at the 82:52 mark to regain its five-goal margin en route to the 6-1 final.
Freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) started the game in net for DC and played the majority of the contest (85:34) while posting eight saves. Fellow freshman Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) came on to play the final 4:26 with no goals allowed and no saves.
Defiance will stay on the road and travel to Richmond, Ind. for a conference game against Earlham (Ind.) College on Wednesday, Oct. 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
