Defiance (0-5) tallied the first goal of the game at the 8:40 minute mark when freshman Miranda Herevia (Port Clinton) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal off of a pass from fellow freshman Whitney Webb (Troy) to give the Yellow Jackets the early 1-0 lead.
But then, the Mount Union (3-4) offense sprung alive to score nine unanswered goals the rest of the way. The Purple Raiders netted the game-tying goal during the 23rd minute, followed by the go-ahead score less than a minute later and never looked back.
Mount Union went on to add goals at the 35:34 and 43:42 minute marks of the period to extend the deficit and took a 4-1 advantage into the locker rooms.
In the second half, the Purple Raiders picked up where they left off offensively, scoring their first goal of the period just under two minutes in to make the score 5-1. Mount Union scored four more goals in the final 45 minutes with markers during the 49th, 52nd, 59th and 63rd minutes to cruise to the 9-1 final.

In net, freshman Rylea Amspaugh (Nashport/Lakewood) got the start and played the first half allowing four goals and making four saves. Freshman Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) came on to play the entire second half and gave up five goals and had nine saves.
