Women's Soccer Shutout By Oberlin
OBERLIN, OHIO- The Defiance College women's soccer team traveled to Oberlin, Ohio to take on Oberlin College in a non-conference game, but lost to the Yeowomen, 8-0.
OBERLIN, OHIO- The Defiance College women's soccer team traveled to Oberlin, Ohio to take on Oberlin College in a non-conference game, but lost to the Yeowomen, 8-0.
Defiance (0-4) took four shots in the first half with two of those shots coming off the foot of freshman Whitney Webb (Troy). Both of Webb's shots were on goal, but both resulted in saves for Oberlin (3-2). Shortly after the second shot by Webb, the Yeowomen scored their first goal of the afternoon at the 7:41 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Oberlin tallied its second marker early in the 15th minute to extend the margin to 2-0. At the 17:36 mark, freshman Kat Wicher (Toledo/Whitmer) looked to put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard with a shot, but another Yeowomen save kept the deficit at a pair of goals.
Oberlin went on to add one final goal in the first half which came at the 27:42 mark to end the scoring and take a sizeable 3-0 advantage into the locker rooms.
The second half started out quick for Oberlin as they scord their next two goals within the first three minutes of the period. The Yeowomen continued to pack on the offense with their sixth goal of the game coming during the 54th minute for a commanding 6-0 lead.
Webb recorded the first shot in the half for DC at the 57:07 mark, but the attempt found the hands of the Oberlin goalkeeper. Wicher, Webb and freshmen Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich./Parchment) and Miranda Herevia (Port Clinton) took the final shots for the Jackets in the game, but neither shot would find its mark.
Oberlin scored its final two goals of the game at the 78:04 and 89:59 minute marks to complete the scoring and cruised to the 8-0 final.
The Yellow Jackets saw three players see time in net. Freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) started the game and played the first 37:52 with three saves and three goals against. Freshman Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) played 6:39 and allowed one goal and freshman Rylea Amspaugh (Nashport/Lakewood) played the final 45:29 with eight saves and four goals allowed.
Defiance will go for its first win of the season when it hosts the University of Mount Union on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Winsper-Knobel Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
