DC Ties Earlham (Ind.) in Last Road Game of Season

Defiance College (2-14-2, 0-6-2 HCAC) tied the Quakers (5-9-3, 2-4-2 HCAC) 1-1 in the second to last match of the season.
Things started off well for DC in the first half. Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) took a shot that hit off the crossbar, but Katie Tilman (Miami, Fla./LaSalle) was there for the rebound and put it away. It was the first goal for Tilman in her career and it gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of the game.
DC's defense did a nice job throughout the first half, though Earlham was able to find shots, the pestering defense kept all shots off target. DC held Earlham to two shots on goal in the first half.
Memmer and Lindsay Bubnick (Vandalia/Butler) continued to apply pressure to the Quakers defense in the first half. Each of them took another shot for the Yellow Jackets in the first 45 minutes.
With Tilman's goal, DC led 1-0 at intermission.
Earlham took a few more shots early to start the second half, but June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Crestwood) stopped them.
DC couldn't find fire power to fight back, as Earlham eventually tied things at one with a goal at the 65:17 mark.
A short time later, Tilman took another shot but this one sailed wide and ended the Defiance threat.
After the conclusion of regulation, things remained tied at one goal apiece.
Freshman Taylor Lantz (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) threatened to end the game early in the first overtime. Just 66 seconds into extra time, Lantz took a shot on goal that forced Earlham to make a save to keep the game alive.
In the 97th minute, Delgreco had back-to-back saves to keep the game going for DC.
After ten minutes, DC and Earlham were still tied up and looked to the second overtime to end things.
Neither team could get a serious threat going in the second half until with 30 seconds left Earlham found a shot. A shot that was on target but Delgreco turned it away to secure the tie.
Delgreco ended the day with eight saves.
The Yellow Jackets will conclude their season on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Hanover (Ind.) College for senior day. Start time is set for 1 pm.
