DEFIANCE, Ohio – The women's soccer team battled it out for 110 minutes against Trine University on Tuesday, before walking away with a 1-1 draw and a 1-2-1 overall record. DC's Kelly Coble notched 10 saves in goal for Defiance, but Trine's Kate Wegert matched with nine of her own to force the tie.
Despite posting a season-high 17 shots and 10 shots on goal, the Yellow Jackets' offense was for the most part inefficient converting opportunities into goals.
DC's Janelle Doenges picked up her third goal of the season off a feed from Katie Heitkamp midway through the second half to give Defiance the 1-0 advantage, but the lead was short-lived as Trine answered with a goal less than three minutes later. Neither team would score for the final 40 minutes of the contest.
Coble's 10 saves in the game was just one shy of her season-high. The senior goalkeeper is currently the only player in the HCAC to rank in the top-two in both saves (31) and save percentage (.861). Doenges' third goal of the season ranks the freshman forward tied for third in the HCAC.
The Lady Jackets will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, when they travel to Michigan for a match with Rochester College (4-2). The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
