Women’s Soccer Wins Season Finale

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets ended their season on a winning note Saturday, defeating conference foe Franklin College, 2-1. The victory gives Defiance a 5-11-1 overall record on the season.
Franklin's Cortney Harth got the Grizzlies on the score board first when she scored unassisted less than six minutes into the first half. The Yellow Jacket responded quickly, tying the game up at 1-1 as Cherilyn Borkholder scored off a Danielle Chadwick in the 16th minute. Ten minutes later, senior forward Lauren Ranalli capped off her outstanding career at Defiance by scoring the game winning goal, giving her seven goals on the season. The Sunbury, Ohio, native is tied for second place in the HCAC with four game-winning goals this season and leaves the Yellow Jackets after posting 17 goals and 39 points in four years.
Junior goalkeeper Kelly Coble recorded six saves on the day and ends the 2009 campaign ranked second in the conference with 143 saves. The game also marks the end of Hannah Davis' and Kristen Goldstein's careers at Defiance. The two senior defenders had an excellent game, holding the Grizzlies scoreless in the second half to preserve the victory for DC.
