Wrestling splits at CWRU Duals
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Defiance College wrestling team made a trip east on Saturday for a pair of duals. The Yellow Jackets first took on Penn St.-Behrend bringing home a 51-6 victory, and in the second dual DC fall to Case Western Reserve, 27-19.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Defiance College wrestling team made a trip east on Saturday for a pair of duals. The Yellow Jackets first took on Penn St.-Behrend bringing home a 51-6 victory, and in the second dual DC fall to Case Western Reserve, 27-19.
In the first action of the day, the Yellow Jackets grabbed nine wins as a team, to bring home a major victory over Penn St.-Behrend. The Jackets then picked up three wins against a tough CWRU field, but ultimately fell to the hosts.
Cortez Bradley (Garfield / Warrensville Heights) started his day off on a high note in 157, picking up a 14-4 major decision victory in his first bout of the day.
Bradley Collins (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) followed up with a victory by way of a pin in 4 minutes and 34 seconds at 165.
Hunter Mcnutt (Oregon, Ohio / Clay) wrestled in the 184 weight class and won by an 18-0 technical fall over his opponent from Penn St. Behrend.
Mason Morris (Grove City, Ohio / Central Crossing) rounded out the first dual with a victory at 197 winning via pin in 1 minute and 49 seconds.
Rosendo Beltran (Toledo / Central Catholic) started the second match of the day with a tech fall victory over Adam Kates from Case Western.
Alex Smith (Castalia, Ohio / Sandusky St. Mary's) wrestled at the 141 and picked up a 16-0 tech fall victory over his opponent.
Rigo Villa (Ft. Myers, Fla. / Lehigh), finished out the second dual for the Yellow Jackets with a 7-0 decision victory.
Defiance will return to action Saturday, Feb. 15, as they compete in the Mid-States Invitational, competion slated to begin at 9:00 am.
