Bio

Allen Curtiss came to Defiance College in August 2017 with several years of coaching experience. He is in his third season of leading the Defiance women's golf program and first year as the head coach of the men's team.

Curtiss arrived at DC from NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia, where he was the head men's and women's golf coach from 2014-17. In 2016 on the men's side, he was named the Great Midwest Conference Coach of the Year while landing three players on the all-conference team. Overall at Alderson Broaddus, he tutored nine All-Great Midwest performers (six men and three women).

Before his stay in West Virginia, Curtiss coached football from 1988-2012, most recently for Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York, where he was the defensive coordinator and in charge of the defensive line. He was also a member of the staffs at Division II Ferris State University from 2008-12 and Bluffton University for 21 years.

At Bluffton, Curtiss served as the head men's golf coach from 1999-2004. He also spent time at Olivet College, as an assistant football coach and head track and field coach, after one season as a football assistant at Division I Bowling Green State University. Curtiss got his coaching start as an assistant on the football staff at Kalamazoo College from 1984-86.

Over the years, Curtiss has been associated with college athletics in many capacities, including marketing, fundraising, team travel, recruiting, admissions and as an equipment manager. He has been an adjunct physical education instructor and served as the tournament director for several events.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Western Michigan University, Curtiss went on the receive a Master of Education in athletic administration at the University of Toledo two years later.
