DC falls to Cornerstone after big third quarter
DEFIANCE, Ohio – In Wednesday's WHAC women's basketball contest at the Karl H. Weaner Center, the Defiance Yellow Jackets shouldered a 65-43 loss to the Cornerstone Golden Eagles.
The first half saw the Yellow Jackets struggle offensively, starting 2-for-17 in the first quarter and went into the half shooting 19 percent. Cornerstone shot efficiently during the first 20 minutes, especially from out long range with 4 3s out of 6 attempts. Both squads committed 12 turnovers and hauled in 19 rebounds in the first half.
Cornerstone erupted for 27 points in the third quarter, tilting the game in their favor by 28 points by the end of the period. The Golden Eagles knocked down 4 trifectas during the quarter to propel the offense. DC won the final quarter 15-9 while keeping the pressure up and forcing Cornerstone to just 3-for-14 from the floor
For the game, the Jackets shot 25 percent and were empty-handed from 3-point distance. Taylor Haynes led DC in scoring at 9 points complimented by 7 rebounds. Jourdyn Wynn was one basket and a rebound from another double-double, posting 8 points and 9 rebounds.
