WBB Preview: Yellow Jackets hit the road to Anderson on Wednesday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College looks to snap a two-game skid with a visit to Anderson on Wednesday for women's basketball action within the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets stand 6-7 and 1-5 in the HCAC following defeats at the hands of Bluffton and nationally-ranked Transylvania last week after winning their previous five games. DC's lat two outings have been a significant dip in offensive performance since posting a season-best 87 points at home against Kalamazoo. Over their last three games, Defiance is scoring 47.7 points and shooting 34.9 percent in the last three games, including 32.7 percent with just three 3-point baskets in their latest two games. However, Defiance remains one of the top defensive teams in the HCAC by letting up 59.5 points per contest despite giving up 81 and 70 points in their latest two losses.
Anderson has gone the other direction by winning five in a row. Overall, the Ravens are 8-5 and 4-2 in the HCAC with the league's top-scoring offense at 76.4 points per game. They also allow the most points in the conference, averaging 73.8 points per contest. Anderson features the conference's reigning player of the year and current leading scorer, Lexi Dellinger. Dellinger led the conference with 22.4 points per game in 2021-22 and is backing that up with a 20.7 point per game average this season. The sharp-shooting senior's 36 made 3-pointers in 13 games leads all players in the conference as well while shooting 39 percent from the perimeter. This year, she has bettered 20 points eight times and 30 points twice, including a 40-point game against Brevard on November 12.
Defiance leads the all-time series with Anderson, 27-21, but the Ravens have claimed the last four contests, including the opening round of the 2021 HCAC Tournament.
