Rogers and Day Headline DC All-HCAC Selection

RICHMOND, IND. – Senior Lauren Rogers (Munger, Mich.) and freshman Taylor Day (West Mansfield/North Union) headline the Defiance College All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors announced Tuesday by the league office.
Rogers was named Second Team All-HCAC, while Day garnered Freshman Team and Honorable Mention honors. Senior Sam Ervin (Bloomdale/Elmwood) was named a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Rogers started all 27 games for the Purple and Gold netting a team-high 273 points. She finished the year shooting 91-of-258 (35.3) from the field with 32 three-pointers and led the team from the free-throw line at 90.8 percent (59-of-65). The senior recorded 13 games with 10 or more points including two 20 point eclipses. She registered a season-high 23 points on February 2 against Mount St. Joseph where she went 8-for-13 (61.5) from the floor.
Day saw action in all 27 games for the Yellow Jackets averaging 27.6 minutes per contest. The freshman averaged 8.2 ppg and ranked second on the team and 12th in the league in rebounds at 5.7 rpg. She finished the season with 221 total points on 75-of-196 (38.3) shooting from the floor. Day connected for 26 three-pointers and grabbed a 154 rebounds. The freshman had nine games with 10 or more points, including a career-best 18 points on January 23 against Manchester where she shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Ervin claimed her third All-HCAC honor appearing in 27 games making 15 starts for the Purple and Gold. The senior finished the season ranked first on the team in rebounds (176) and blocks (28). Ervin finished second in points (260) and free throw percentage (76.4) and ranked ninth in the league in rebounds per game at 6.5. The Bloomdale native tallied 13 games with 10 or more points and registered two double-doubles, including a season and career-best 33 points in the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament on February 22.
Defiance finished the season at 10-17 overall, 8-10 HCAC and ranked fifth among the Conference. The team concluded their season on February 22 against national ranked Transylvania in the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament.
