Tietje Named HCAC Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, IND. -- In back-to-back weeks, and third time this year, Defiance College senior Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
GREENWOOD, IND. -- In back-to-back weeks, and third time this year, Defiance College senior Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Tietje helped the Yellow Jackets extend their current winning streak to four games with a pair of victories against Anderson (Ind.) University and Hanover (Ind.) College this past week. DC has also captured seven of their last nine games and are currently in fourth place in the HCAC standings heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Tietje averaged 23.5 points per game while shooting an impressive 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the field. She also averaged 13.5 rebounds per game to go along with four blocked shots, three assists and one steal. She recorded her 14th and 15th double-double of the season with a 21-point, 14-rebound effort against Anderson, followed by a 26-point, 13-rebound performance against Hanover.
For the season, Tietje continues to lead team, and conference, in points (395), points per game (20.8), field goals made (154), field goal percentage (58.8), total rebounds (264), rebounds per game (13.9), defensive rebounds (196) and blocks (48).
She also ranks nationally in several categories including 21st in points per game (20.8), tied for fourth in total rebounds (264) and rebounds per game (13.9), tied for 26th in blocks (48), and tied for third in double-doubles (15).
The Defiance women's basketball team will travel to Richmond, Ind. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for a HCAC contest against Earlham College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
