DC's Tietje Named HCAC Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College senior women's basketball player Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College senior women's basketball player Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.
Tietje helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a pair of victories this past week, including a 79-75 double overtime win against Bluffton University in which she scored 24 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and had seven blocked shots. With her 19 rebounds and seven blocks, Tietje became the program's all-time leader in both statistical categories. She takes over the top spots with 1,135 career boards and 195 blocks.
For the week, Tietje averaged 22.5 points per game, while shooting 58.1 percent from the field (18-of-31) and 75.0 percent at the free-throw line (nine-of-12). She also averaged 12.5 rebounds per game in addition to blocking eight shots, tallying five assists and one steal. Tietje's double-double effort against Bluffton (24 points and 19 rebounds), brought her season total to 13.
For the season, Tietje currently leads team, and conference, in points (348), points per game (20.5), field goals made (134), total rebounds (237), rebounds per game (13.9), defensive rebounds (178) and blocks (44).
She also ranks nationally in several categories including 25th in points per game (20.5), third in total rebounds (237), fourth in rebounds per game (13.9), tied for 23rd in blocks (44), and tied for third in double-doubles (13).
The Defiance women's basketball team will host Anderson (Ind.) University on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
