BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Defiance College women's basketball team traveled to Bluffton University on Wednesday evening to take on the Beavers in a late-season Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. The Yellow Jackets recorded their worst shooting performance of the year and lost by a score of 62-47.
Bluffton controlled the game from the opening tip and jumped out to a quick 15-7 lead in the first 10 minutes of action. The Beavers managed to extend the lead to 10 by taking a 29-19 lead into the halftime intermission.
Hannah Harshman was the only Yellow Jacket starter to hit more than one field goal from the floor in the first period, as the junior led the Purple and Gold with seven points on 3-4 shooting from the field.
The second half played out like much of the first for DC, with the Jackets incapable of converting opportunities from the field. Defiance was unable to string enough makes together to ever pose a serious threat to the Bluffton lead, as the Beavers cruised to a comfortable 15-point win.
DC shot a season-low 26.2 percent from the floor and went 3-20 from beyond the arc. The lone bright spot in the contest came from Harshman, who recorded a season-high 14 points on 5-8 shooting. The forward rounded out her performance with four rebounds, one assist, one steal and zero turnovers.
With the loss the Yellow Jackets record falls to 14-10 and their HCAC record now sits at 11-6. Defiance returns to action on Saturday, February 16, as the Purple and Gold head to Franklin to take on the Grizzlies in the regular-season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
