Women's D-III News Names Erica King to All-Freshman Team
BEAVERTON, Ore. – DC’s Erica King was recognized as one of the top young NCAA Div. III women’s basketball players in the country with her recent selection to the D-III News All-Freshman Team. The Pettisville, Ohio native was one of 11 players in the nation to receive the distinction.

Defiance Adds Seven to Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC Team
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its winter honorees for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC Team on Wednesday, with Defiance placing seven student-athletes on the list. The seven award winners give DC five more than its 2009 winter total.

Defiance Places Four on HCAC All-Sportsmanship Team
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2011 All-Sportsmanship Team on Tuesday for the winter seasons. The award is part of the league-wide initiative to promote good sportsmanship.

Jackets Go One and Done with First-Round Loss to Spartans
HANOVER, Ind. – Manchester avenged its first-round loss to Defiance in last season’s conference tournament by coming from 17 points behind to top the Jackets, 74-62, in the HCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday evening. Defiance ends the season with a 12-14 overall record.

Jackets End Regular Season with 83-81 Win vs. Franklin
DEFIANCE, Ohio – On an afternoon that Defiance celebrated the accomplishments of its seniors, a freshman guard stole the show, posting a game-high 22 points to lead DC to a thrilling 83-81 victory over Franklin. The win puts Defiance at 12-13 overall and 10-8 in the conference to conclude the regular-season slate.

Defiance Beats Bluffton to Clinch HCAC Tournament Berth
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets clinched their second-straight appearance in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 73-63 win over Bluffton on Wednesday night. DC (11-13; 9-8) closed the first half on a 12-2 run, and carried the momentum through halftime to secure the victory.

Lady Jackets Fall, 99-92, in Overtime Against Mount St. Joseph
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Forty minutes of regulation play was not enough to determine a winner on Saturday, in a game that featured 17 ties and 26 lead changes between Defiance and Mount St. Joseph. Mount outscored Defiance, 15-8, in the overtime period, handing DC the 99-92 loss.

Schmersal Takes Three-Point Title in 81-56 Win at Earlham
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Lady Jackets weathered a hot start by Earlham on Wednesday evening before walking away with an 81-56 victory and an 8-7 mark in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Earlham remains winless on the season with the loss.

Schmersal Makes History in Jackets' Loss to Transylvania
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Courtney Schmersal would have preferred to do it in a winning effort, but nonetheless, the senior sharpshooter tied DC’s all-time record for three-point field goals made in a career, hitting three against the Pioneers to bump her career total up to 142. Defiance fell, 104-64, in the game.

Lady Jackets' Offense Stays Hot in 85-76 Win at Manchester
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester’s defense had held its opponents to 60.9 points per game and hadn’t allowed any opponent this season to score more than 77 points entering Thursday’s matchup with the Lady Jackets. Defiance bucked that trend, dropping 85 on the Spartans in an 85-76 road victory.

First-Place Panthers Get the Best of DC in High-Scoring Affair
HANOVER, Ind. – Defiance posted the most points scored against Hanover’s defense this season, but fell short, 102-91, against the HCAC’s top-ranked team. The Lady Jackets (8-11; 6-6 HCAC) remain in fifth place in the conference with six games left in the regular season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets trailed by three with 20 seconds left on the clock, but managed to score five unanswered points in the last 19 seconds to beat Anderson, 69-67, and claim their third-consecutive home victory. Defiance improves to 6-5 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win.

HCAC's Leading Defense Can't Stop the Jackets in 79-72 Victory
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance claimed sole possession of fifth place in the conference with a 79-72 win over Rose-Hulman on Saturday. The HCAC’s leading defense could not contain the Yellow Jackets, as they poured in 79 points, marking the highest point total scored against the Engineers this season.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Defiance took a nine-point lead into halftime against Bluffton on Wednesday night, but surrendered 52-second half points as the Beavers rallied to claim a 90-83 win in front of their home crowd. Defiance and Bluffton are now locked in a tie for sixth place with 4-5 records in the HCAC.

Free Throw Shooting Hurts the Jackets in 73-60 Loss at Franklin
FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Lady Jackets have not won a game at Franklin College since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference prior to the 2000-01 season, and that trend continued on Saturday afternoon, as DC dropped a 73-60 decision and fell into fifth place with a 4-4 mark in the conference.
