Deja Vu at the Sal Leads to Sweep of Bluffton
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Freshman Kalin Hubble (Anderson, Ind.) registered back-to-back walk off home runs to lead softball to a sweep of Bluffton on Wednesday afternoon at Sal Hench Field. The Purple and Gold won game one 10-1 and took game two 8-0.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Freshman Kalin Hubble (Anderson, Ind.) registered back-to-back walk off home runs to lead softball to a sweep of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton on Wednesday afternoon at Sal Hench Field. The Purple and Gold won game one 10-1 and took game two 8-0.
Sophomore Taylor Biggs (Cincinnati/Oak Hill) claimed the game two one hit shutout, while senior Rachel Wehrman (Fort Loramie) registered the game one win.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets (14-10 overall, 5-1 HCAC) scored early and often as junior Jen Nashalsky (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) tallied an RBI to center field that plated senior Jordan Osborne (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes). Junior Brooke Gostomsky (Dayton/Covington) scored later in the inning as a single off the bat of senior Jackie Hartman (Parma/Padua Franciscan) put DC on top 2-0.
Defiance added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Osborne singled to left field scoring freshman Sophie Moller (Pickerington/North), placing junior Arianna Richards (Covington) in scoring position. She scored on the next at bat as Hubble singled to center field giving the Yellow Jackets the 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hubble tallied her second RBI of the contest as she singled to center field scoring Osborne, 5-1. Senior Michaela Bauer (Hicksville) continued to have success at the plate as she homered scoring two more DC runs.
With the 8-1 advantage in the fifth inning, Hubble dealt the game winning hit as she continued to have success at the plate delivering a walk off bomb to center field.
The Purple and Gold carried the momentum into game two as Bauer scored the games first run with an RBI that plated Osborne, 1-0. The scoring frenzie continued into the second inning as a Bluffton miscue scored another Yellow Jacket runner, 2-0.
DC blew the game wide open in the third inning as Bauer doubled to center field plating Gostomsky and placing Hubble in scoring position when Nashalsky singled to center pushing the DC advantage to 5-0.
Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Gostomsky homered setting the stage for another exciting finish. Hubble provided as she registered her second walk off homer of the cevening with a shot to center field that secured the DC sweep of Bluffton.
The Purple and Gold return to action Thursday, April 10 as they play host to Kalamazoo. First pitch is schduled for 3:30 p.m.
