DC's bats started quickly once again, as Jordan Osborne (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) singled to right field. After Megan Warren singled, Brooke Gostomsky (Covington) got on by a fielder's choice that saw Warren out at second. Osborne and Gostomsky would both score after a pair of errors from a hit off the bat of Kaity Kuhn (Celina) to put DC in front, 2-0, after an inning.
The Defiance offense went hitless the next two frames while Franklin scored in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Grizzlies then took control in the fifth inning with four runs on five hits and a pair of errors to make it a, 5-2, FC advantage.
DC got runners on base in each of the last three innings, but could not push another run across as they were eliminated from the tournament with the 5-2 loss to the Grizzlies.
Junior Sarah Kaya (Lorain/Clearview) allowed five runs, only one of them earned, on 10 hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Jamie Kimbler (Huber Heights/Wayne) threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing four hits, but zero runs.
Osborne led the way offensively for Defiance, going three-of-four on the day. Warren chipped in by going two-of-three on the day.
Osborne and Gostomsky were honored at the conclusion of the tournament by being named to the HCAC All-Tournament Team, voted on by the coaches of the four teams.
