GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Defiance saw its season come to an end in the NCAA Regional semifinal, dropping a 7-0 decision to DePauw University on Saturday. The Jackets wrap up their season with a school-record 30 victories, while claiming their second-straight HCAC Tournament title and NCAA Regional Final Four berth.
DC was unable to get things going offensively, as it was held to just four hits in the game. Melanie Bushman, Aarika Davis, Mallory Faling and Marah Robinson each collected a base knock in the contest, but the Jackets could not string those together and were held scoreless for only the fourth time this season.
Justine Johnston was tagged with the loss, giving up five earned runs in 4.1 innings. Defiance's all-time wins leader finishes her four-year career with 66 victories, owning the record by an amazing 15 wins.
The loss wraps up the careers of DC's class of 2009, as Amanda Auzins, Bushman, Kayla Crager, Johnston, Stephanie Lieto and Allison Ramsay finish their tenure at Defiance with the most successful four-year span in school history. This year's seniors racked up 106 victories, two HCAC tournament titles, a pair of NCAA Final Four appearances and one HCAC regular season championship while helping the Jackets win a school-record 30 games in 2009.
