Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Complete Warrior Challenge 14th out of 14
NEW BOSTON, Mich. - In their third race of the season, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's cross country teams competed in the sixth-annual Warrior Challenge hosted by Wayne State University on Friday evening at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Michigan.
The women, led for the third time this year by Mira Horvath, and then men once again topped by Jake Stephens, both placed 14th out of 14. The women finished with a team score of 434 and the men with 461.
Horvath crossed the finish line of the 6,000-meter race with a time of 29:03 and in 116th place, followed by Zawadi Debola who placed 138th and ran a 33:46. Coming in next was Israa Khamis who placed 143rd with a time of 43:37. To finish off the course for the Yellow Jackets, Amira Knight and Rakel Thompson finished within one second of one another – Knight at 47:56 in 145th place and Thompson at 47:57 in 146th.
First of Defiance's five racers, Stephens completed the 8,000-meter course in 182nd place with a time of 35:51. To round out the men's race, Tyjon Mance, Anthony Lawson-Beachum, Zyon Woods and Kamren Lewis finished consecutively and all within nine seconds.
Next Friday evening, both DC cross country teams will resume action as they travel to Purdue Fort Wayne for the Mastodon Alumni Open.
