Cannon crowned HCAC champ in 400m hurdles
Defiance sophomore Tawon Cannon took first place in the 400m hurdles at the 2022 HCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Defiance sophomore Tawon Cannon took first place in the 400m hurdles at the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. As a team, Defiance finished ninth.
The Basics
- The event was hosted by Hanover College.
- Manchester took home the conference championship with 172 points.
- Defiance recorded 30 points to finish ninth.
Notable Performances
- Cannon recorded the second-fastest time in the 400m hurdles during the prelims on Friday at 57.52 seconds and took first place in the finals with a time of 55.42 seconds.
- Sophomore John Reese placed third in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday with a personal-best time of 10:05.61. Reese also set personal bests in the 400m hurdles at 59.46 seconds and the 1500m at 4:12.92. He placed seventh in the hurdles and eighth in the 1500m.
- Junior Ja'Qway Janvier finished fourth in the 100m and seventh in the 200m.
- Deuntray Drennon, Gavin Maratea, Janvier, and Cannon placed fifth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.40 seconds.
- The 4x400m relay team of Maratea, Reese, Drennon, and Cannon placed ninth with a time of 3:44.64.
