Track and Field to Host 2022 HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships
On Saturday, February 19 Defiance College will host the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
DEFIANCE - On Saturday, February 19 Defiance College will host the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. All events will take place in the George M. Smart Center with the first events starting at 1:00 p.m. The meet will feature all 10 of the HCAC track and field programs and will be broadcasted by Indiana SRN.
At this time, spectators are permitted to attend the event and are required to follow all campus COVID protocols. The College recently returned to a mask optional policy that is subject to change at any time and updates will be posted on the website.
Spectators must purchase a ticket to enter the event. Tickets are $10/person and HCAC students and staff with ID and children 11 and under are free.

Defiance Track Notes
- Heading into the HCAC Championship, Defiance freshman Traci Cross holds the second-fastest time in the conference this season in the 60-meters with a time of 7.97 seconds while senior Lisa Markau has the fifth-fastest time this year with 8.20 seconds. Markau placed fourth in the event at the conference championship last winter.
- The Yellow Jacket women hold three of the six fastest times in the 200-meters this season led by Cross and freshman Ashanti Elkins who are first and second with times of 26.44 seconds and 27.07 seconds. Markau has the sixth-fastest time this season with 27.76 seconds and placed seventh at the championships last season in the 200-meters.
- Two weeks ago Cross earned HCAC Women's Track Athlete on the Week honors for her performances in the 60-meters and 200-meters.
- Junior Ja'Qway Janvier currently has the fourth-fastest time in the 60-meters with 7.06 seconds and placed second at the indoor championships last season.
- Janvier also is tied for the second-fastest time in the 200-meters in the conference this season with a time of 23.00 seconds and took third place in the event last winter.
- Sophomore Tawon Cannon has the fifth-fastest time in the 200-meters with 23.25 seconds.
- Cannon set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles earlier this season with a time of 8.42 seconds and that time is also the fastest in the HCAC this season and earned him HCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors in early December.
- Other Yellow Jackets who project to perform well at the conference championship include freshman Alexandria Ausmus in the 800-meters and sophomore John Reese in the mile.
