Cannon named HCAC Athlete of the Week following record-breaking performance

Defiance sophomore Tawon Cannon (Columbus, Ohio / Mifflin) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Cannon set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday evening at the oiler Opener with a time of 8.42 seconds. Cannon placed third in the event with a time of 8.45 after setting the record in the qualifying heat. Both of his times at the event were faster than the previous record of 8.66 set by Jordan Weber in 2012.
In addition to his record-setting performance, Cannon also recorded a new personal best in the 200-meters with a time of 23.25 seconds for a ninth-place finish.
Cannon and the Defiance men's and women's teams will next compete on January 14 when they host the Dick Small Invitational at the George Smart Center.
