Track & Field battles strong field at Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s and women’s track and field programs took on a tough field at the Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invite Friday evening.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's and women's track and field programs took on a tough field at the Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invite Friday evening.
The men were led by a 60 meter dash finals appearance from Ja'qway Janvier (Miami Gardens, Fla./Mater Academy Charter). The freshman took home a sixth place result while breaking into the top ten all-time at DC with a time of 7.17.
Also competing in the 60 meter were Gabriel Melvin (Jacksonville, Fla./Atlantic Coast), who just narrowly missed out on a finals appearance, and Cody Drumm-Turner (Homer, Mich./Homer) who took home a top-twenty finish.
Janvier also topped the Defiance finishers in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.75 and a 12th place result.
The quartet of Janvier, Drumm-Turner, Melvin, and Terence Williams took on a field of predominantly NCAA Division II and NAIA opponents in the 4x200 meter relay. The Yellow Jackets finished in the top ten with a time of 1:38.26.
In men's throwing action, Kaleb Tyree (Tiffin/Columbian) represented DC in the shot put where he tallied an 11.22 meter toss for a top twenty performance.
On the women's side of action, Madi Bowman (Eaton/Eaton) was the highest finisher for the Purple and Gold. The senior edged out numerous opponents from all levels of collegiate athletics, ultimately finishing second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.52 meters. Bowman's 10.25 meter shot put landed her in 12th.
In the long jump, Lisa Maria Markau represented DC. The sophomore finished in the top twenty with a 4.26 meter performance. Markau went on to compete in the 60 meter and 200 meter contests as well.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, as team members travel to either All-Ohio Championships or the Findlay Alumni Classic.
