Slow Start Dooms Yellow Jackets in 8-1 Loss to Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Defiance College men's tennis team dropped their HCAC contest with Manchester University this afternoon, falling 8-1 in North Manchester, Indiana.
The Spartans opened the match with a clean sweep of the doubles flights. At first doubles, partners Adam Swisher and Jared Schnee were outlasted 8-5 while Nathan Principe and Eline Widman fell 8-1 at second doubles. Micaiah Cox and Ring Lardner would also fall 8-1 at third doubles.
In singles play, Swisher was the lone Yellow Jacket to record a win, taking first singles 2-6, 6-3, 10-6. Schnee dropped second singles 6-1, 6-4 before Widman was routed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Principe was trumped 6-4, 6-3 at fourth singles while Lardner retired at fifth and Cox was defeated 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Yellow Jackets look to bounce back next week with a home contest against Earlham College on Wednesday, April 18. First serve will start at 4:30 PM.
