Yellow Jackets Edge Heidelberg 5-4
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team recorded their first victory on the season as they edged Heidelberg University 5-4 this evening in Defiance, Ohio.
In double action, partners Adam Swisher and Eline Widman easily defeated HU 8-2 at first doubles while duo Nathan Principe and Henry Brown fell 9-7 at No. 2. Ring Lardner and Micaiah Cox also dropped their set at third doubles, narrowly falling 8-6.
Swisher continue to produce in singles play, recording a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1. At second singles, Widman contributed a much needed win for the Yellow Jackets, defeating his opponent 7-5, 7-5. Principe notched a 6-2 win in his first set before falling 3-6 in the second set at No. 3 singles. He would go on to snatch a 6-2 win in the third set to add another win for DC. Fourth and fifth singles went to Heidelberg as Brown and Larder were defeated 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively. In the final round of action, Micaiah Cox came up big for the Purple and Gold, capturing a huge 6-2, 6-2 victory that ultimately gave Defiance the win.
The Yellow Jackets take the courts again on Saturday, February 24 as they host Thomas More at the Smart Center. Action will being at 1:00 PM!
