Bio

Cory Bucur has concluded his third season as the head coach of the men’s soccer program after the 2021-22 season.

During the 2021 fall season, Bucur led the program to its most success in over a decade. The season ended in the conference championship game but the program won multiple HCAC conference tournament games for the first time in its history including upsetting the #1 seed Rose-Hulman, also for the first time in the history of the program. The team won the second-most games in program history and got three players (Noah Svanberg, Josue Martinez, and Joshua Maurer) on the HCAC All-Conference list, which is the most since 2013.

Bucur came to Defiance after serving as the Assistant Coach for Lake Erie from 2015 where he has held multiple roles. While at Lake Erie, he assisted with the day-to-day operations, as well as recruiting and developing a soccer-specific strength and conditioning program. Bucur also coordinated various fundraising events for the men's soccer program ranging from youth camps all the way to high school-aged events. His most recent role since 2017 has seen him focus primarily on goalkeepers.

His commitment to higher education didn't stop there as Bucur also worked as an admission counselor for the Storm helping with the recruitment of students locally, regionally, and abroad.

Bucur also is a head coach for Toledo Celtics, a club soccer program located in Toledo, Ohio where he leads all training sessions as well as attends and coaches the team at various statewide and regional events.

Bucur completed his undergraduate degree in Adolescent/Young Adult Education before receiving his Master of Business in 2017 from Lake Erie College.
