The sides found themselves evenly match in the first forty-five minutes of play. Both teams had opportunities to score, but no one could find the back of the net, leaving the teams deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime.
Defensively, Harrison Hirth (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer) earned his third shutout of the season. Supporting the sophomore's goal stopping efforts were Bennett Pack (Glasgow, Ky. / Glasgow) and Carson Macklin (Shelbyville, Ind. / Shelbyville), who both played the full 90 minutes in the backline to help preserve the Purple and Gold's fifth clean sheet of the year.
Defiance picked the offensive pressure in the second half outshooting their opponent 9 to 5 and forcing the Manchester goalkeeper into five saves on the day.
In the 58th minute of play, junior Christian Rennie (Conroe, Tex. / Porter) spun his way to a beautiful cross where Jeremey Jimenez (Cape Coral, Fla. / Cape Coral) found the back of the net, giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Defiance was able to hang on to the 1-0 lead for the rest of the game, securing a crucial Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win.
The victory brings the Yellow Jacket record to 8-7-2 on the season and 3-2-1 in the HCAC. Defiance is next in action Saturday, October 26th, as they travel Mt. St. Joseph to take on the Lions for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
