DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College men's soccer team wrapped up the 2018 Homecoming festivities by welcoming Rose-Hulman to Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets ultimately fell to the Fightin' Engineers by a score of 3-0.
Defiance began the match by putting pressure on the Rose back line. Just 4:08 into the match Jarod Brossia (Curtice / Genoa) found some space and sent a shot over the crossbar of the Fightin' Engineer keeper's goal. Rose-Hulman quickly returned the pressure adding a few shots to their match high 24, before finding the back of the net in the 13th minute.
Defiance continued to hold the highly potent Rose-Hulman offense at bay for the remainder of the half to take the 1-0 scoreline into halftime.
Head Coach Jordan Valentine's squad looked to equalize in the second half, but once again was put up to the challenging task of handling Rose-Hulman's offense. In the 52nd minute Rose had what seemed like a perfect opportunity to score when their attacker collected the ball just inside the 18-yard box. Senior Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky / Upper Sandusky) made a diving save to keep the shot out of the net and hold the score at 1-0. On the day, Musgrave made 8 saves from eleven shots on target.
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets took 10 shots on the day, five of which landed on target. Leading the way in the shots category were seniors Christian Meister (Ontario / Ontario) and Adam Ordel (Lima / Elida) with two each.
The defeat brings Defiance's record to 5-7 on the season and 2-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets are next in action on Wednesday, October 10 as they travel to Anderson University for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
