Men's Golf Shatters School Record in Season Opening Invitational
LIMA, OHIO - The Defiance College men's golf team shattered the school record for 36-holes in their season opener on Friday afternoon at the UNOH Invitational hosted at Hidden Creek Golf Club.
LIMA, OHIO - The Defiance College men's golf team shattered the school record for 36-holes in their season opener on Friday afternoon at the University of Northwestern Ohio Invitational hosted at Hidden Creek Golf Club.
As a team, the Purple and Gold recorded 594 strokes, breaking the previous record of 602 strokes set during the 2015-16 season.
The Yellow Jackets finished fifth overall in the 18 team field made up of Division II, III and NAIA members.
Freshman Federico Gutierrez (Queretaro, Mexico) earned all-tournament team honors and moved into second all-time in Defiance College history as he led the Yellow Jackets with a combined 141 strokes. Gutierrez finished fifth overall in the 95 player field.
Freshman Diego Gonzalez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) registered a 30th place finish as he shot a combined 151 (79-72) strokes, while freshman Werner Heinze (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Oliver Thomas (Margaretta) finished tied for 42nd with 154 strokes, respectively.
Sophomore Hayden Clingaman (Stryker) rounded out the scoring for DC as he claimed a 55th place finish with 157 (78-79) strokes.
Stephan Dolan (Painesville Twp.) also displayed a strong finish as a member of the Purple and Gold alternate team, finishing tied for 11th with 144 strokes.
Indiana Wesleyan won the match with a team score of 559 strokes, followed by UNOH in second with 567 strokes.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8 as they compete in the Ohio Cup hosted at Red Hawk Run Golf Club.
