Bio

Sterling Johnson will be in his third season with the Defiance College men’s basketball team in 2018-19 as an assistant coach.
 
Johnson, a Clinton Twp., Mich. native, graduated from Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) University with a Bachelor’s degree in business and management. While attending SVSU, Johnson was a member of the basketball program for four seasons.
 
During his senior year, SVSU had their winningest team in program history, as the team finished with 25 victories and won their first ever NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship before falling in the Elite Eight. 
 
Johnson played in a total of 108 games in his four-year career, including playing in every game of his junior and senior campaigns.
 
Johnson has gained experience in coaching with young athletes at basketball camps at SVSU, the University of Michigan and Oakland (Mich.) University to help to teach them the fundamentals of the game, as well as develop their all around game through drills and games.
 
Johnson was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Commitee at SVSU, as he helped promote unity in the athletic department and took an active role in community service and helped to promote the athletic department.
