Men's Basketball Drops Contest at Franklin

FRANKLIN, IND. - The Defiance College men's basketball team headed south Saturday afternoon for a matchup with HCAC foe Franklin College. Despite battling tough during the first half, the Grizzlies defeated the Yellow Jackets 77-57.

Defiance struck first in the contest, winning the opening tip-off and quickly converting it into two points via a Sean Tyson layup (Columbus / Centennial). The Grizzlies then grabbed a small lead and continued to lead for a majority of the first half. DC was hot on the trail as with just over 10 minutes left a Tyler Andrew (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence Central) jumper gave the Purple and Gold their first lead since the beginning of the contest.

Franklin was able to extend their lead as the sides neared halftime. A last second FC jumper gave the home side a 37-27 advantage as the HCAC sides headed to the locker room.

Coach Scott Cutter's side came out firing in the second half, cutting into the Franklin lead. A 15-point run for the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 45-41. Franklin quickly reversed the flow of play for their own 13-point run.

With a 17-point Grizzlie lead, DC was unable to close the gap. The home side was able to hold on to defeat the Yellow Jackets by a 20-point margin, 77-57.

Sean Tyson led the way for Defiance, scoring a career high 15 points in the contest. The freshman also reeled in six rebounds, and forced three turnovers.

The loss brings DC's record to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in HCAC play. Defiance will return to action Saturday, December 15 as they head to Hanover College for a 3:00 pm tip-off.
