DEFIANCE, Ohio – Just one day after being named as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Defiance College's freshman cornerback, Anthony Sierra, was selected to D3football.com's 26-man National Team of the Week.
Sierra anchored a gritty performance from the DC secondary, which held a powerful Rose-Hulman passing attack to just 20 completions in 42 attempts during the Jackets', 28-21, victory in Terre Haute on Saturday, October 17.
The Warren, Mich., native led the way by hauling in two of Defiance's three interceptions in the win. Sierra returned his second interception 30 yards for a touchdown to draw DC even at 21-21 early into the fourth quarter.
Sierra added three solo tackles in the game and has piled up 17 solo stops and 24 total tackles during his rookie collegiate campaign. Sierra has added one hit for lost yardage, two pass break ups, two interceptions and four passes defended during his first six collegiate contests.
Sierra and the Jackets (2-4, 1-2 HCAC) will be back in action on Saturday night, when they play at Anderson in a 6:00 pm start.
