Rocket League win over Marietta highlights esports’ busy Saturday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Rocket League team’s impressive win over Marietta College highlighted a busy Saturday for Defiance College esports. Defiance also competed in other Great Lakes Esports Conference matches against Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Trine University.

In Rocket League, the Yellow Jackets dropped the first game, but rallied by winning three contests in a row for a 3-1 victory in the best-of-five series. DC's Christian Rennie led the way with five goals in the match while Joshua Szostek and Aaron Sommers tallied three apiece. Szostek's goals concluded the scoring, coming after Defiance was down, 4-2, in the fourth and final game.
The Yellow Jackets began the day with a 2-0 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene in League of Legends. For DC, Damon Thomas had a 7.5 KDA in the opening game and David Andrew a 3.0 in the second.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the last competition of the afternoon with Defiance falling, 2-0, to Trine.
DC's first scheduled Super Smash Bros. Ultimate match of the season was not played due to technical difficulties. The match with MVNU will be rescheduled.
On the young season, the Jackets have a 1-1 record in Rocket League and are 0-2 in LoL and Counter-Strike.
Defiance returns to action next Saturday. On the slate are Lourdes University (RL), Grace College (LoL) and Ohio Northern University (CS:GO).
