DEFIANCE, OHIO - Defiance College, in collaboration with various colleges and universities in the region, will join the Great Lakes Esports Conference beginning in the 2019 fall season.
After competing independently last year, the Yellow Jackets will join eight other programs in the formation of the conference. Members include: Defiance College, Muskingum University, Lourdes University, Marietta College, University of Mount Union, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Ohio Nothern University, Tiffin University, and Trine University.
Conference members will battle in competitions such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter-Strike, and Rocket League. Action will begin in September as the GLEC members prepare to compete this fall. After the conclusion of a fall season, conferences members will again challenge one another in spring season action.
The inaugural year of GLEC action will culminate with a conference championship hosted by Tiffin in the spring.
"We look forward to competing against colleges that are closer in proximity. This will give our student athletes an opportunity to hopefully compete in-person, and add another league that we can compete in year-round! I look forward to working with each of these colleges and programs to create a great conference and environment that we will be proud of in the years to come" said Defiance Esports Head Coach Corey Parks.
