Bio

Robert Zeigler is in his first season on the Defiance College coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach for the baseball program in the 2019-20 academic year.

Zeigler, a Defiance, Ohio, native, brings valuable coaching and recruiting capabilities to the Defiance team. He came to DC from the Midwest Stars Baseball Club, where he served as an assistant coach, primarily handling the pitching duties for the squad.

Throughout an impressive playing career at Defiance High School as both a pitcher and hitter, Zeigler earned accolades such as being named a Louisville Slugger All-American, an Under Armour All-American and Rawlings First Team All-Region. He was a two-time first team all-state selection, garnering Division 2 Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2013 when the Bulldogs posted a 31-1 overall record and won the state championship. In his senior year at DHS, Zeigler went 10-0 with a 0.45 earned run average, striking out 109 in 62.2 innings while batting .437 with five home runs and 37 RBIs.

Zeigler went on to attend the University of Kentucky and pitched for the Wildcats in 2014 and 2015. He later transferred to Kent State University, where he was as a valuable piece of the Golden Flashes' pitching staff from 2017-18. In his two seasons on the Kent State roster, Zeigler made 33 appearances with three starts, compiling a 3-2 record, eight saves and 3.86 ERA with 56 strikeouts over 51.1 innings.

Zeigler graduated from Kent State with a bachelor's in organizational communication before moving on to complete a master's in sport and recreation management.
