Nies, Reese Earn All-Tournament Team Honors
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Sophomores Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind.) and Michael Reese (Constantine, Mich.) landed on the All-Tournament Team after their performances at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Sophomores Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind.) and Michael Reese (Constantine, Mich.) landed on the All-Tournament Team after their performances at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman.
Nies continued his strong season on the mound. The Logansport, Ind. native made two appearances with one start over the three day competition. Nies tallied a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings pitched. The sophomore struck out 14 and allowed four runs during his time on the mound.
Reese played multiple roles for the Yellow Jackets, serving both as a designated hitter and relief pitcher. On the mound Reese threw for four innings while allowing two hits and striking out two.
Reese proved to be a vital player from the batter's box. The sophomore led the Yellow Jackets with a .467 average over 15 at-bats. The Constantine, Mich. native tallied seven hits and five RBI including a home run in the opening round battle with Transylvania.
Defiance finished the season 23-16-1 overall, 10-8 in the HCAC and returned to the HCAC Tournament for the first time since 2013.
