It didn't take long for Defiance to start making contact. Four hits in the first inning propelled DC to a 2-0 lead. The top of the order continued their scoring ways in the second as Garrett Sierra (Defiance/Defiance) found his way on base before Michael Gilliland (Napoleon/Napoleon) brought him home to extend the lead to 3-0.
Defiance scored two more runs, one in the fourth and one in the seventh, to finish with the winning scoreline.
Jon Brown (Haskins/Ostego) got the start on the mound, picking up his second win of the season in his 6.2 innings pitched. Reigning HCAC Pitcher of the Week Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind./Lewis-Cass) took over for Brown as the sophomore finished the contest.
Through the snow flurries in Northeast Ohio, the Yellow Jackets prepared to face off with their opponents of the same name in Baldwin Wallace. A quick start from both Yellow Jacket sides had the score knotted at 2-2 after the first inning.
After a two-run third inning from BW, Defiance looked to even the game. Tanner Stippich (Lima/Allen East) hit his first home run of the season in the opening at-bat of the inning. DC was unable to grab another run as Baldwin Wallace went on to complete the win on their home turf.
On the day, Nate Kaffenbarger (DeGraff/Indian Lake) tallied a team-high four hits while Gilliland hit three RBI in his first two appearances of the season.
Defiance's record now stands at 6-3-1 overall. DC will return to action at Baldwin Wallace Sunday, March 17 as they take on Alma College at 11:00 am.
