Murphy joined John Capuano (Rampo) and Preston Grissom (Christopher Newport) to have 15 sacrifice bunts on the season to lead NCAA Division III.
However, Murphy completed the task in just 35 games while Capuano and Grisson played in 46 and 41 games respectively.
Murphy's mark of .43 sacrifice bunts/game was most closely challenged by Dan Moro (Hamline) who had 14 sacrifice bunts in 36 games (.39/game).
The statistical champion for Murphy and Defiance Baseball is the first in the history of the program.
For Murphy, the mark wraps up his four-year career at Defiance. Over his time playing for the Purple and Gold, the Versailles, Ohio native had 27 career sacrifice bunts. As a junior, Murphy had 10.
Murphy started 85 games in the outfield for the Yellow Jackets in his career, recording 48 hits and 31 walks for a career .335 on base percentage.
