GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2010 All-Sportsmanship Team for the spring sports on Wednesday. The award is part of the league-wide initiative to promote good sportsmanship.

Jesse Leads Six Jackets on All-HCAC Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently announced its 2010 All-HCAC Baseball Team. Kirk Jesse topped the list of six Yellow Jackets to be honored with his First-Team All-HCAC nod, while Tim Pitro, Casey Kahsen, Keith Wade, Alex Timofeev and Zach Stallkamp were also recognized.

Defiance Takes Pair Against Rose-Hulman on Senior Day

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College closed its 2010 campaign with a pair of Senior Day victories on Saturday at Rutter Field against Rose-Hulman. The series win by the Jackets ended the HCAC Championship hopes of the Engineers, while capping DC’s winningest season since winning 19 games in 1999.

Weather Forces Suspension of DC Baseball Game

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The series opener between Defiance and Rose-Hulman was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning on Friday, as violent storms moved into the area. The Jackets face an 8-6 deficit and the game will be picked up in the eighth at noon on Saturday and will be followed by the regularly scheduled doubleheader.

Bluffton Outslugs Defiance, 16-14, in 10-Inning Affair

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance and Bluffton hooked up for a wild game on Tuesday at Rutter Field, as the two teams saw 11 pitchers combine to throw 378 pitches, while allowing 30 runs on 37 hits with 13 coming via extra bases during the 10-inning tilt. When the dust had settled, Bluffton escaped with the 16-14 victory.

HCAC Recognizes DC’s Taylor as Pitcher of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that it had selected Defiance College’s Jake Taylor as the league’s Pitcher of the Week. The award is the first for Taylor and the third for the Yellow Jackets this season.

DC Baseball Splits Pair at Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Less than 24 hours after seeing MSJ rally for five runs in the ninth to win the series opener on Friday, Defiance closed the weekend set by overcoming a five-run, ninth-inning deficit en route to an 8-7 win. DC dropped Saturday’s first game, 11-1, but doubled its 2009 win total with the 14th win of the year in the nightcap.

Jackets Drop Heartbreaker at Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Defiance College committed an error on what would have been the final out of the game and Mount St. Joseph capitalized with a five-run ninth inning to steal the 9-8 victory in the opening game of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series.

Records Fall as Defiance Snaps Skid at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Tim Pitro set one and tied two more all-time records for the Defiance College baseball program and Bryn Lehman etched his name in the record books as well, as the Yellow Jackets blew out Ohio Northern, 12-1, on Wednesday for an impressive non-conference road triumph.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Transylvania, as the Pioneers used the 9-1 and 9-7 victories to complete the three-game sweep over the Yellow Jackets at Craig A. Rutter Field.

Jackets Drop Game to Transylvania Before Rain Moves In

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance and Transylvania were able to complete the first of two scheduled games on Saturday afternoon at Rutter Field, before rain moved in and forced the suspension of the second contest. TU won the opener, 10-6, and built a 1-0 lead in game two before play was halted.

DC Comes Up Short to Ohio Northern on the Diamond

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Kirk Jesse singled in the eighth inning to take sole possession of second place on DC’s all-time hit list with 151, but it was not enough to help the Jackets get past Ohio Northern on Tuesday afternoon. Defiance ended up falling, 6-2, to extend its season-long losing streak to five games.

Spartans Hold off Defiance at TinCaps’ Parkview Field

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Casey Kahsen swatted his team-leading third home run and DC’s top four hitters combined to go nine-of-18 at the plate to help the Jackets outhit Manchester, 14-9, but the Spartans held on for the 7-5 victory on Monday night at the home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets could not slow down the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s top-rated lineup, as Anderson won 17-5 and 16-5 on Saturday to complete the series sweep against Defiance at Rutter Field.

Anderson Uses Late Surge to Slug Past Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – A pair of hot-swinging offenses collided at Rutter Field on Friday with the wind howling out, as Defiance and Anderson squared off in the first of a three-game weekend series. When the dust had settled, 33 runs had been scored on 43 hits and AU walked away with a 24-9 victory.

Pauli Wins Defiance’s SAAC Sportsmanship Award

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Levi Pauli has been voted by the Defiance College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the third winner of the SAAC Sportsmanship Award. The honor is part of the NCAA’s ongoing Respect Campaign and will be announced every two weeks throughout the remainder of the spring semester.
